He Shall Be Called … Jesus

To Moses - I AM THAT I AM

Immanuel – God with us

He (Jesus):

Destroyed the power of Satan and the fear of death
Became a merciful high priest who understands our weaknesses and is able to help us when we are tempted
Became the eternal source of salvation to all who believe in Him and obey His teachings

Matthew 1:18 – 25

“You are to give him the name Jesus.”

Y’howshuwa
Joshua (Hebrew)
Jesus (Greek)
Yahweh the Savior

Joseph did exactly as the angel of the Lord had commanded.

He took Mary as his wife
He had no sexual union with her until after the birth of Jesus
He gave him the name Jesus

Jesus’ - “For He shall save His people from their sins”

For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

For HE shall save His people from their sins”

HE is the one who will offer His life as a ransom.

HE is the one who will freely lay down His life for His sheep.

HE is the one who will defeat darkness, take on the wrath of God, and provide the means for cleansing from sin.

There is no other one who could do this

There is no other one who can do this

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12

For He SHALL SAVE His people from their sins

To save
Make atonement for
To destroy the power of sin
To bring deliverance from all the power, guilt, and pollution of sin

Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost.

WE ARE LOST!

Jesus came to save us from:

The wrath of God we so rightfully deserve
The stranglehold that sin had on us.
The guilt and shame associated with sin.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,   2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,   4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Rom 8:1-4

For He shall save His people FROM THEIR SINS

Jesus came to save us FROM OUR SINS

He didn’t come to save us IN OUR SINS

Jesus didn’t come to SANCTIFY YOUR SIN so you can continue to sin.

Shall we continue to sin that grace may abound – GOD FORBID!

No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 1 John 3:6

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. 1 John 5:18

To the woman who was caught in adultery - “I do not condemn you.  Go your way and SIN NO MORE.”

To the man who had been sick for 38 years by the pool of Bethesda - “quit sinning or something worse will come.”

The gospel doesn’t make ALLOWANCES for sin

The gospel makes ATONEMENT for sin

God hates sin.

Sin is what separates us from God

What is sin?

All wrongdoing is sin – 1 john 5:17
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness – 1 John 3:4
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins. James 4:17

Sin is living in disobedience.

When we sin, we become a slave to sin.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

And you shall give him the name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins

Are you set free today?
